Apple Vision Pro: Very limited units- because of Sony?

According to sources, Sony, the supplier of OLED panels for Apple's Vision Pro, can only produce around 900,000 units per year.

This means that Apple is limited in its production of Vision Pro headsets, as each headset requires two displays. Reports suggest that Apple has already revised its sales target down due to this production bottleneck. It is believed that Apple had asked Sony to increase its production, but Sony refused.

This could be a reason why the Vision Pro headset has such a high price point. OLED microdisplays are used in low-volume products, such as high-end camera viewfinders, and mass-production fabs are only just coming online this year.

Apple may need to find alternative suppliers or convince Sony to scale up production if it wants to increase its production of Vision Pro headsets or release a more affordable version in the future.

Other companies, such as LG and Samsung, are also working on OLED microdisplays for VR devices, which could lead to competition for suppliers between Apple and Meta.
