Beginning the week of June 21st, 2023, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets will receive various features and enhancements. These updates are set to improve the performance of the Quest Pro and Quest 2 by enabling higher clock speeds for the CPU and GPU, resulting in smoother gameplay and a more responsive UI. Additionally, developers will have access to more power for both existing and upcoming apps. Among the performance improvements are up to a 26% increase in CPU speed for Quest Pro and Quest 2, up to a 19% increase in GPU for Quest 2, and up to an 11% increase in GPU for Quest Pro.
Another feature to be added is the ability to use a passcode to unlock your device, similar to the unlock pattern. Users will be able to set up a numerical passcode between 4 and 12 characters to unlock their device, enter saved passwords, and more. Passcodes can be managed from Security in Settings.
Messenger in VR is also getting an update. With the introduction of the Messenger app, users will be able to message and make audio calls in VR, allowing them to connect with friends regardless of the device they use. In addition, a green circle will now appear on the People tab in the universal menu to indicate when people you follow are online.
Explore, the default landing page in VR is also receiving a redesign. The experimental design will feature new content, including new layout formats, Reels in VR, and media content from Peacock, YouTube VR, Pluto TV, and Xtadium. Only users who have a Facebook or Instagram account in the same Accounts Center as their Meta account will be able to view Reels in VR.
Avatar editing is also being made easier with one-click access to the mirror in your Horizon Home. Users will be able to view real-time edits to their avatar in an optimal position.
Eye tracking on Quest Pro is being improved to make it more accurate across a wider field of view and during expressions like winking. Users can recalibrate for the most accurate eye tracking by going to Movement Tracking in Settings, then Eye tracking, then Calibrate eye tracking.
Notifications in VR can now be interacted with using your hands. With hand tracking turned on, users will be able to tap on icons or buttons or swipe to dismiss a notification.
Lastly, two new virtual environments will be released: Futurescape and The Great Sand Sea. Futurescape combines futurism and nature, while The Great Sand Sea immerses users in a vast desert landscape. Quest Browser will also have multi-touch gesture support, allowing users to zoom in, zoom out, or interact with other web elements using Touch controllers or their hands.
